Today, I have the absolute joy of sharing some exciting news, both for the world of tinnitus care and for me personally.
Nature Communications Medicine, one of the most respected scientific journals, has published a real-world study showing the effectiveness of Lenire, the FDA-approved tinnitus treatment device, for patients treated right here at Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center.
It is a landmark moment for patients, for our clinic, and for me personally.
Based on our research, this is the first time a Doctor of Audiology has been published in Nature Communications Medicine, and I am deeply honored to be that Doctor of Audiology.
What the Study Found
In our real-world analysis of 220 patients with moderate or worse tinnitus:
91.5% experienced a clinically meaningful reduction in their tinnitus after just 12 weeks of treatment with Lenire
78% experienced improvement after just 6 weeks
These real-world outcomes were consistent with Lenire’s large clinical trials, proving that relief is possible not just under lab conditions, but in real lives
This is one of the largest peer-reviewed real-world studies of tinnitus patients ever published, and seeing these results shared by such a prestigious journal is incredibly rewarding.
Why This Matters
Tinnitus can feel isolating, overwhelming, and exhausting. For many, it steals precious parts of life, from sleep to peace to the ability to simply enjoy silence.
This publication shows that hope is real. Lenire works, not just in theory, but in practice, for the people who walk through our doors every day.
I was proud to co-author this paper alongside Professor Hubert Lim, Ph.D., of the University of Minnesota. Together, we were able to capture the life-changing results our patients are experiencing right here at Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center.
One of our patients, Mike McGaughey, said it best: “After 12 weeks of Lenire, I no longer feel tortured by my tinnitus. Lenire has given me a new lease on life.”
Those are the stories that keep me doing what I do, and why this moment feels so special.
A Celebration for All of Us
For the first time, we have real-world, peer-reviewed evidence that tinnitus can be meaningfully reduced with a safe, non-invasive, at-home treatment under the care of a trained tinnitus expert.
It also represents something bigger, a shift in how we approach tinnitus care. No longer managing expectations with “just live with it”, but offering genuine, evidence-backed solutions that bring real relief.
For me personally, being published in Nature Communications Medicine is a career highlight, but more importantly, it reflects what we are building together. A place where hope is not a vague promise, but something real, something patients can feel.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning. More research, more real-world success stories, and more people finding the peace they deserve.
If you, or someone you love, is struggling with tinnitus and wondering if there is hope, the answer is yes. We are here, and we are ready to help.
Thank you to every patient who trusted us, every professional who collaborated with us, and everyone who has been part of this journey.
