When a person comes to us with a hearing challenge, they’re taking a leap of faith and putting their trust in us that we can identify their individual issue and know what needs to be done to help them.
That trust always has and always will be at the forefront of what we do here at Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center, and now more than ever, as we’re pleased to officially say that we can help people with any hearing loss they have.
This is because we are now official partners of The Cochlear Provider Network.
What Does This Mean And Why Is It Important For The People Of Anchorage & Eagle River?
Being partners of the CPN and Northwest Hearing Alliance means we’re now licensed to perform specific testing that determines whether someone is eligible for cochlear implants.
It also means that through our testing, we are able to refer our patients to a specific surgeon who specializes in cochlear implant surgery, which not many hearing and tinnitus centers have access to.
The reason why this is important to the people of Anchorage and Eagle River is that it means we can now help every single person who comes to see us, from those with a mild or moderate hearing loss, to those with the most severe variety – the latter of which are more likely to benefit from cochlear implants.
“We are pleased to be a part of the Cochlear Provider Network because it allows us to continue to be a part of our patient’s hearing journey throughout the entire implant process, which reinforces our commitment to our patients and the community at large.”
– Dr. Emily E McMahan
What Is A Cochlear Implant?
Cochlear implants are stunningly advanced medical devices that are implanted within the ear and are capable of restoring your hearing as close to its natural state as possible (if your hearing loss is severe).
Cochlear implants can be placed in one ear (unilateral) or both ears (bilateral), and both children from as young as six-to-twelve months and adults can benefit from the much-improved hearing quality they offer.
For people with a severe hearing loss, hearing aids might just not be enough, which is why this highly specialized surgery is offered in the most extreme cases, giving people the joy of hearing again.
“I feel lucky to be a part of the Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center family. I have struggled with hearing aids for a very long time but resisted the idea of a hearing implant. I am happy to say that I have now decided to move forward with getting the surgery because I know I can be cared for by the people I trust throughout my hearing journey. I am so thankful for my hearing professional since they directed me to this life-changing option and I’m excited for what the future has in store for me.” – John B.
