Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center Wins Special Recognition Award For Enterprise

Emily E McMahan, owner of Alaska Hearing and Tinnitus Center, was awarded the Special Recognition For Enterprise on October 3.

Although Emily didn’t take top prize of Entrepreneur of the Yea, she was given special recognition for her hard work and dedication that allowed her clinic to grow year after year, despite the setbacks of 2020 and the pandemic.

As a child, Emily aspired to be a doctor and explored the different areas of healthcare growing up. Each time she encountered hearing healthcare, she was fascinated, particularly as she had been exposed to hearing loss firsthand by a childhood friend.

From there, she went on to college to study audiology and never looked back, despite being told by her professor that she would never make it.

After many years of experience working in clinics that were suited to her, she found a practice and less than 2 years after graduation, she opened Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center.

While it was a risk that she wasn’t prepared for, it turned out to be the best decision of her life.

There have been many challenges along the way, including maternity cover, extreme weather conditions, and the pandemic, but her team of 5 have come out stronger than ever, resilient to whatever is thrown their way.

Emily describes that the three things that have contributed to her success are curbside appointments, pushing their telehealth marketing, and adjusting her attitude, ensuring they always remain positive about whatever happens.

Emily says, “Audiology was my dream, it became my passion, and I can’t imagine being anything other than an audiologist.

“I’ve been asked more times than I can count if I would rather be a stay-at-home mom? I can honestly say no.

“That doesn’t make me a bad mother, but being an audiologist and helping my patients allows me to be the best mom to Carolina Grace & Theodore.”

In 2020, Emily temporarily closed the doors of Alaska Hearing and Tinnitus Center due to COVID-19 mandates and is still battling the after effects of COVID-19. However, Emily is a prime example of how resilience and dedication reap positive results.

Currently, patients can take advantage of two non-contact options – telehealth and curbside, with the clinic catering to mail order repairs and adjustments.

Congratulations, Dr. Emily E McMahan! You continue to be an inspiration to our whole team here at Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center.
