Which Hearing Aid Is Best For You AND How To Choose

06/17/2021 | Hearing Aids, Patient Resources, Technology

“What hearing aids are the best?” is one of the most common questions we get and for good reason.

Although we’re expected to be able to simply answer this question as the most trusted audiologists in Alaska – it’s not that simple.

It’s like asking a mechanic “What car is the best?” – there are many personal circumstances that determine what is the right decision based on many factors.

Throughout this article, I’m going to discuss the particulars of getting the right hearing aid for you.

My goal is to help you to better understand your options, the key questions to ask when deciding on what type of hearing aids are right for you, and the next steps that you should take.

“There Are So Many Hearing Aid Manufacturers! Which One Is Right For Me?”

To jump back to the car analogy, it’s a little like asking whether you should choose Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. They all make quality cars that are favored by different people. Hearing aid manufacturers operate the same way.

We have helped thousands of local people in Alaska to achieve better hearing. The manufacturers that we choose to partner with are ReSound and Widex.

These are two of the most reputable manufacturers having sold tons of hearing devices, and in my opinion, they’re truly at the cutting edge of technology with their devices offering the greatest results for our patients.

While we have favorite manufacturers, we are happy to work with the Big 6 to best fit our patients’ needs. There are pros and cons depending on each person’s hearing needs, listening preferences, and location of where they live.

Another key consideration is the level of hearing of the patient. Different manufacturers and devices favor more mild hearing losses and others are better suited to more severe hearing challenges.

Not all hearing aids have the ability for remote care (telehealth), nor do they all have equal processing for our tinnitus patients.

Every time we fit a patient, we take into consideration all your unique needs.

Do you need some expert advice?

But at this moment, key devices that hugely impress us are the ReSound One and the Widex Evoke.

However, new technology is constantly emerging, and we want to stay at the forefront of change. This allows us to ensure we can deliver the best outcome for all our patients.

Your Lifestyle Will Have A Huge Impact On What Device To Get

These hearing aids are very customizable. We can adjust the settings to suit the exact environment that you are in daily.

If you change jobs or locations or go traveling, we can adjust them to accommodate that as well.

For example, if you work in a factory where you are exposed to loud constant noise all the time, then we would set up your hearing aid accordingly.

If you fish and are out on the open ocean, then your hearing aid settings will be much different than your factory counterpart.

We are lucky to be able to serve so many different issues these days. Even if you are worried about the look of a hearing aid, we can address that as well.

Hearing aids come in so many different sizes and can be practically invisible if that is a concern.

Since we spend so much time outdoors in this beautiful state, we sometimes find ourselves removed from the comforts of home.

To address this, we also carry hearing aids with long-lasting rechargeable batteries. And even ones with replaceable batteries so you can always have a backup on you just in case.

While the cost of hearing aids in Alaska varies depending on the type of technology you choose. We are experts at working within your budget. We will help any way we can to find creative ways to get you the help you need at a price that suits you.
