How Does Oto Work?

Oto is a digital program that works over your phone to help you manage your tinnitus with personalized techniques you can employ from the comfort of your home.

There are a few steps to how Oto will work for your tinnitus treatment and management.

Recommendation

After a tinnitus consultation with our team, if we determine you’re a good fit, we’ll recommend Oto as a tool for managing your tinnitus.

Personalization

In addition to our consultation, you’ll complete a series of questions through the Oto program. This helps further tailor the program to your individual needs.

Treatment

You’ll work through the Oto program at your own pace via the app. Designed for efficiency, it requires just 10 minutes a day to complete an audio session using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help retrain your brain’s response to tinnitus. The program provides eight weeks of structured, tinnitus-specific CBT guidance to support long-term relief.

Feedback

We schedule a follow-up appointment with our audiologist at the 4-week mark to monitor your progress. Additional support is available if needed, but most patients do well with a mid-program check-in and a final follow-up at the completion of Oto.

Features of Oto’s Streamlined Smartphone App

Oto’s programming features CBT therapy to help address tinnitus symptoms, but it goes above and beyond to help your hearing health—and keep your needs as a person and a patient at front of mind.

Unlimited support within the app allows for direct access to a tinnitus coach whenever you need some advice or guidance on your treatment or tinnitus symptoms, so you can work on habituating to your symptoms.

Q: What is the difference between Oto and Lenire?

Lenire and Oto both work toward the same goal – tinnitus relief – but they use different approaches. Not everyone responds to the same technique, which is why we offer multiple treatment options with proven outcomes:

  • Lenire uses bimodal neuromodulation, stimulating the brain through multiple signals to create a better response pattern to tinnitus.
  • Oto focuses on mindfulness and habituation strategies to help your brain adapt to tinnitus over time.

Many patients use Lenire and Oto together, as their different approaches complement one another. Both are excellent options for tinnitus management, and we’d be happy to discuss which one best suits your needs.

Q: Is tinnitus linked to hearing loss

Tinnitus can occur in individuals with normal hearing as well as those with hearing loss. When both tinnitus and hearing loss are present, we work closely with each patient to determine which symptom is most concerning—or if both need to be addressed equally. As a full-service audiology clinic, we provide a comprehensive care plan tailored to your needs, whether that involves tinnitus management, hearing aids, or a combination of both.

Q: Can Oto cure my tinnitus?

As of right now, there is no cure for tinnitus—but there are many options to treat and manage your tinnitus, including Oto’s personalized therapy programs.

Oto can provide lasting relief for your tinnitus symptoms with the help of habituation and CBT therapies.

Q: My tinnitus is much too loud to grow accustomed to! What do I do?

You might be surprised to find that your brain is already well equipped with the skills to habituate yourself to loud noise or distractions.

After all, when was the last time you saw your nose out of the corner of your eye?

Your brain is aware that your nose is between your eyes, but it has become habituated to its presence, and so you don’t actively notice your nose unless you’re thinking about it.

Habituation for tinnitus is the same. With time, practice, and dedication to the personalized treatment that Oto offers, you can find lasting relief from tinnitus.

Q: What is habituation?

Habituation is the process of adapting to the sounds of your tinnitus. With Oto’s CBT-based treatments, you’ll practice mindfulness techniques to help you grow accustomed to the noise and diminish the negative reaction that you might have to it.
