The First Audiologists in Alaska to Introduce Innovative Tele Audiology

We understand that getting to our office for a hearing care appointment isn’t as simple as hopping in the truck, riding the snowmobile, or hooking up the dogs to the sled.

Because of Alaska’s unique geographical features, enormous size, and sometimes impassable roads, Alaska Hearing made the decision to provide a teleaudiology service to our patients long before the COVID-19 lockdowns made it necessary.

Tele Audiology provides a way for you to connect with our hearing care professionals for continuing hearing care and technical support for hearing instruments from wherever you happen to be.

Using the video camera on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop device, you can have a face-to-face consultation with your hearing care provider without having to come in for an office visit.

Although many offices in the lower 48 set up the service in compliance with COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, we set up our service in 2018 in response to the unique challenges our patients often have to overcome in order to make it in for an office visit. Our patients have come to rely on receiving the same high-level hearing care from our teleaudiology appointments as they get whenever they can make it in.

Five Easy Steps of a Tele Audiology Consultation

Scheduling a teleaudiology appointment is as easy as setting up an in-office appointment, if not easier. There are five steps involved in the teleaudiology consultation process.

1. Fill Out Our “Schedule A Tele-Audiology Consultation” Form

Once you fill out and submit the form, Alaska Hearing’s patient care specialist will contact you and assist you with setting a date and time for your appointment.

2. Receive A Confirmation Email

Once we’ve agreed upon a date and time, we’ll send you a confirmation email. This email contains your appointment confirmation as well as critical information regarding the setup and testing of the camera and microphone on your device. It will also include the link you will use to connect when the time for your appointment arrives.

3. Connect With Dr. Emily

After clicking on the provided link on the agreed-upon date and time, you will connect live via video conferencing to one of our professionals for a face-to-face consultation.

4. Our Initial No-Obligation Consultation

We provide an initial 15-minute no-obligation consultation, which allows potential patients to ask questions, discuss their concerns about hearing loss, hearing tests, hearing aids, etc. Based on your needs and objectives, we will recommend scheduling a hearing assessment, guide you toward hearing protection options, or provide the same services we have available during in-office initial consultations.

5. Troubleshooting Advice for Current Patients

Existing patients can also take advantage of our teleaudiology service for face-to-face device troubleshooting, remote device programming assistance, or to have your questions answered by your hearing care provider just as if you were sitting in one of our examination rooms or offices.
